‘The Climate Crisis: What can the Arts and Humanities do?’

Conference report

In May 2025, the Royal Irish Academy’s Committee for Language, Literature, Culture and Communications held a one-day event entitled ‘The Climate Crisis: What Can the Arts and Humanities Do?’

The intention was to draw together scholars working in all four of the areas covered by our Committee’s remit, to highlight some of the exciting work that is already underway in Ireland, and – by doing so – to imagine future possibilities.

The report summaries the case study presentations and captures some of the key takeaways from the discussion sessions facilitated as part of the conference. This report aims not only to showcase existing research, but to build new networks, strengthen advocacy, and articulate more clearly the value of the Arts and Humanities, both in their own right and in dialogue and partnership with scientific and technological research.
